Increased appetite

My appetite has changed recently. It seems that I get hungry easily and I can almost finish my entire meal. And in between meals, I take little bites (eg cereal, fruits, biscuits, yogurt or sweets). When it's near to lunchtime, many times, I already know what I want to eat. And after lunch, I find it such a joy to indulge in a cup of yogurt. I have been having yogurt for a week straight and I'm in love with it :)  I realised that it helps to curb the nauseousness very well.

Hubby said that's because all along I have been starving the baby and now baby is back to revenge. Haha. It's good that I can eat better now but I still have to eat slowly so that I can digest well. I always have remind myself not to rush while eating and that I have to eat slower than my normal speed.

Lately, we chose not to eat at home too often because my father-in-law / maid's cooking is too salty. Hubby has been quite nice. He orders more 清淡 dishes when eating out with me and will suit my appetite. At times, he comes home too late for dinner (8pm) and I couldn't eat much as my bedtime is 9.30 pm.

I've just done a "research" on some of the food to avoid during pregnancy.

  • Avoid seafood high in mercury
    * Swordfish
    * Shark
    * King mackerel
    * Tilefish

  • Avoid raw, undercooked or contaminated seafood
 (which includes medium-to-well-done beef steak and half-boiled egg)

  • Avoid undercooked meat, poultry and eggs

  • Avoid unpasteurized foods

  • Avoid unwashed fruits and vegetables

  • Avoid large quantities of liver

  • Avoid excess caffeine

  • Avoid herbal tea

  • Avoid alcohol

7 weeks

I am currently in my 7th week. So far still only a handful of people know. I didn't tell more people. Only one of my colleagues knew and I had to tell her because I cannot carry heavy stuff.

Yesterday, I intended to stay over at my mom's place over the weekend because hubby is busy with work and he will be working 9 to 6 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Plus, my mom is in the mood for baking cakes, so I thought it'd be nice to help her out (help to sample too! hehe). But on Friday evening, I had two 50 cent coins worth of spotting again and I felt slight cramps. I decided that I better go home to rest.

As usual, I get more nauseous at nights esp during dinner time. I absolutely have no appetite. I also dun like the smell of rice, noodles, fish, meat, curry (be it others' eating or from food stalls). That's why even when my in-laws are eating tabao food, I siam into the bedroom. I only can stand smells from the bakery like bread, cakes, waffles, soups. WEIRD. Many times, I can only drink milo and eat a piece of biscuit for dinner. Its really sooooo difficult to eat a slice of fish or take one spoonful of rice. Then I will bathe and quickly lie down on the bed. Usually by 9 pm, I am ready to sleep. I am not sure why I have been sleeping so much these days. Hubby says that I'm hibernating.

Another week more before seeing Dr Poon. I think by then, we should be able to hear baby's heartbeat and know whether s/he is growing well and healthy. Lately, I have been listening to the womb songs that Hubby downloaded for me in my iphone and also some apps for pregnancy [week by week baby growth]. I look forward to the day that I can exercise (after my first trimester in March 2011). My bones are cracking and my body is getting lazy from the lack of exercise.

I also have been singing 'The Lord's Prayer' out loud. Hope that next time baby will be familiar with this song when we go to church.

Perfect Mum maternity wear

Just now during lunch time, I went hunting around for maternity office wear. The work pants that I have are still wearable but they are just not that comfortable because the buckle is pressing against my tummy. I want to find something stretchy and comfortable yet can wear to the office.

I just realised that after working in Raffles Place for 10 years, I have no idea where are the maternity shops! I just walked and walked until I saw PERFECT MUM and they are having sales. So I went right in :)

I tried a few pieces and they are indeed comfortable. The salesgirl said that everything is imported from Japan and there's no need for ironing.

In the end, I bought two pants and two tops. I can wear them until full term. It's rubberised at the waist and I can custom the waistline by loosening/tightening the button. Clever design. They don't come cheap too. One pair of pants is $79.90 after discount. I guess it's okay because I won't be spending anymore and will be wearing these throughout my 9 months.

Oh and I applied for membership because I combined my receipt with another kind customer to hit $300 :) Members are entitled to 15% discount.

Heightened sense of smell

I seemed to be able to smell like a dog :p

I'm able to detect odors especially. That's not a good sign because the slightest foul smell affects my mood and makes me want to scold the F word. I'm quite shocked because this is so not-me.

That day, my maid was warming up KFC crispy drumstick for Hubby who came back late from work. I stormed off from the kitchen and into the bedroom, refusing to come out anymore.

I also asked Hubby to put lots of aromatherapy in the in-laws room and all over the living room every other day.

--------------------
From my 5th week, I've also started to feel very nauseous throughout the day. My mouth feels watery as if I can vomit any time, but I never did. *touchwood* To be safe, I have carried a plastic bag in my bag wherever I go now. I also had to take one sweet while travelling to work to sooth the queasy feeling. The nauseous feeling came after the HCG injection. I am not sure whether it's the side effect of the jab.

Many times, I feel hungry but I don't have appetite. I also ate lesser than what I used to, very turned off by the smell of fried food or when I walked past a food court/hawker and they are frying something.

2nd visit to Doc Poon

Today, Hubby accompanied me to Blk 108 Hougang Ave 1. I asked the doctor some questions like whether I can resume exercising, whether the spotting is normal (until this stage) and whether I can have the injection to stablise the baby. He did gave me a HCG jab ($40).

He did a scan for me. Hubby discreetly took a photo of the scan on the screen. I'm now 5 weeks, 5 days pregnant. Can you see the little dark coloured rectangular sac there? Hehe.

Can see that Hubby is very happy. He has been so hyper outside the consultation room and he hugged me when we stepped out the clinic. Will be seeing Doc Poon 3 weeks from now.
